It will cost more to send packages by FedEx next year - the company announced its package and freight rates will rise an average of 5.9% for U.S. and U.S. export services. The rate increase will be partially offset by adjusting the fuel price at which the fuel surcharge begins, reducing the fuel surcharge by 2 percentage points.
FedEx Express and FedEx Ground will also implement a change to the dimensional weight (dim weight) volumetric divisor from 194 to 166 for U.S. domestic services.
The Residential Delivery Charge, a surcharge for delivering packages to a residence, will increase to $2.75 per shipment for FedEx Express package services. The rate is currently $2.50 per package, up from $2.40 per package in 2009 and $2.30 per package in 2008.
FedEx' net profits more than doubled year-over-year in the first quarter ended August 31, 2010, to $380 million.
FedEx 2011 rates go into effect on January 3, 2011, more details are available online. FedEx Ground and FedEx SmartPost pricing changes for calendar 2011 will be announced later this year.
