Gold Prospecting
« on: March 23, 2009, 02:12:15 PM »
 <:)  Is there anyone interested in gold prospecting.  It is a passion of mine and I can spend many hours getting good exercise and if luckey a little gold.  I own 3 claims and am a member of GPAA (gold prospectors of America) and have several hundred claims in almost every state that I can look for that elusive yellow metal.  I just went to one of my claims this past weekend and found a little gold even though I did have some problems.  Saturday the blower for my dry washer broke down and I had to repair that then Sunday got rained out.  I still managed to find about 12 grams of the yellow stuff.  There is places to do recreational prospecting in almost every state.  Would love to hear from anyone that has done any prospecting or would be interested in doing some. It is a great family activity.   :-X :-X :-X :-X

I used to watch the GPAA show Gold Fever on the outdoor channel. That was a couple years ago. Haven't seen it since I moved to NC. Wife even bought me a metal detector some years ago.

What an nteresting and possibly lucrative hobby you have!

It sounds like great fun and something that family members from gramps on down to youths could participate in and have some quality family time doing so.

Inquiring minds wants to know more!

My dad had a metal detector while I was still living at home.  He and mom would go to school yards and parks and look for lost jewelry and coins.

I got a detector myself after I left home, but it was so complicated, I never could figure out how to use the doggone thing and ended up giving it away.   Actually it probably wasn't that complicated ---- I was just being me as usual --- very, very blonde.  O0

 lol lol  I actually love prospecting. I go to the hills near Dahlonega GA. I have often gone for the weekend or just a days junket. I work the streams mostly. I have gotten quite a bit of gold out of them there hills. My largest single nugget so far was 6 grams. It was pretty. The gold here runs 22-23K on the average. I've been doing it for about 25 years. Just waiting for those streams to warm up a tad before going off again. It's a great hobby<:)

My wife is from Georgia, we have talked about doing something like that the next time we go there, which wont anytime soon. :'( We like watching the shows on discovery and history channel about them. Would be fun to just go play in the dirt...and not get yelled at for getting my jeans dirty.....again. O0

Oh that would be a blast. The girls ( 2 step daughters and their family's are in NOrtheast Georgia. We like going but are dealing with family issues currently that keeps us from going any where that distance is involved. The cold there is nothing that I have ever felt before, it isn't like the cold we have here in Michigan, least we have the lake here to regulate us. Down there it goes right to the bone.

Wow, that would be cool to get a group together to do some prospecting. I have family in northwest GA, not to far from Jaime.

 ;)  It's settled then.. we do have to wait for the streams to warm up or we'll freeze our hands off. I think it would be one heck of a lot of fun. Great idea Phil {{{}}}

 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(  I guess Froggy and I will have to comfort each other.  By the way Georgia is the first place gold was found in the US and there was many millions of ounces taken out then gold was discovered in California and a lot of the Georgia miners went to California and they left a lot of gold in Georgia.  I belong to LDMA (Lost Dutchmans Mining Association) and we have a Gold producing claim called Vein Mountain in Georgia where we can camp for free while digging for gold.  There is also gold in Texas!!!!
